William died of an unspecified illness at the Royal Herbert Hospital, Woolwich on 13th June. He was buried in Ewhurst churchyard and unusually his grave has a private memorial and not a CWGC headstone.
Originally from Dublin, in 1911 he was working as a butler at Woodlands and his wife Annie was the cook / housekeeper. He had joined up beginning of war as a gunner with the Royal Field Artillery.
They lived at Brook Cottage, Woodlands with their daughter Annie Florence. His wife Annie died 1963 and her ashes were put on his grave.
