Visit of Volunteers
In July, the local company of the Volunteer Regiment hosted a visit from a contingent of the 15th Battalion County of London Volunteer Regiment under the command of Captain Walshe. The contingent travelled to Gomshall by train and marched to Ewhurst via Peaslake, where they were met by No. 1 Platoon C Company 6th Battalion Surrey Volunteer Regiment under the command of 2nd Lieut. Campbell Taylor. The surrey Advertiser reported that “After lunch at the Bulls Head, drill and various operations were carried out, and there was a demonstration of physical exercises by the Ewhurst Boy Scouts under Sergt. Maj. J. E. Bell. Tea was partaken of at High Edser Farm and later speeches were delivered by Captain Clark Kennedy, Captain Walshe, Lieut. Campbell Taylor and Sergt. Maj. Bell.”
